let’s be real
Out here in blogland it can seem like everything is sunshine and butterflies 100% of the time. Since there is a real person behind it all, this is definitely not the case. There are many days of feeling stressed, uninspired and lacking creativity. I call this a creative funk and my friends, I’m feelin’ it!
I’m not sure why it happens or what brings it on, but I know it happens to everyone. Some are worse than others. But it always passes!
Sometimes it just takes creating a lot more bad stuff than normal before I get to the good stuff. Sometimes it takes stepping away from the project for a little while and working on something else. And sometimes, it takes a sweet friend reminding me that God has me right where He wants me, and for a very specific purpose. ( thanks, Ash )
What kind of practical things do you do to get back in the creative groove? Yesterday I actually did the things I usually put off when I feel overwhelmed with a long to-do list and lack of creativity: clean my house and read The Word. Yeah, those should be on the top of my list. I know, you’d think I would’ve figured that out by now, right? Okay your turn! Tell me your tricks :)

design elements by CREATE LIKE CRAZY design studio

I’m totally there! I have been staring at a layout for a site I need to design for the last 3 hours. I’m stumped! I usually checkout competitors, build a sitemap, and even checkout design blogs.. but my usual tactics are not working. Tips?
Glad to know it’s not just me! When those things don’t work for me, I usually take a break and try my best not to think about the project for a little while. It helps me to work on something else on my to-do list – even if it has nothing to do with design – and come back to it. I usually come back refreshed and I’m able to think more clearly and work more efficiently ( which makes up the time lost! )
I’d love to hear any tricks you come up with! :)
I love friends that remind you of those things ;)
Man, me too. I’m so blessed to have them.
Gosh I love your honesty and transparency. So refreshing.
Also loving having you as a friend :) Thank you, Jesus and Blogshop!
You’re so sweet. This post was totally inspired by you girl!
Haha! Yay, Jesus and Blogshop! Awesome. ;)
Love this. I have found that I need to go out and shoot for myself after every wedding I do. Somehow it helped me get back into the groove after I feel like all my creativity is drained.
that’s awesome! it’s so great that you’ve figured out a system that works for you. :)
