A Full Length Virginia Ballet Company Production
La Sylphide, a classical masterpiece, is one of the world's oldest surviving romantic ballets. First performed in 1836, August Bournonville's romantic tale is about the human desire to find true love. A woodland fairy, the Sylph, uses her beauty and ethereal spirit to bewitch a young Scotsman, James, away from his fiancée, Effie, on the day of their wedding. The story unfolds in a forest glade as an obsessed James, blinded with love, follows the charming winged Sylph through the forest and crosses paths with an embittered witch, Madge. La Sylphide is a charming and refreshing ballet that is new to Virginia Ballet Company's repertoire.
