setting goals + making things happen ( + another free resource )

This morning, in my email to the CLC insiders on the new email list ( get on the list right here or in the sidebar under “become a clc insider” ), I talked a bit about goals.

Goals are important for so many reasons. They’ve become important to me recently in allowing me to get through my long list of ideas and actually make them happen. Like I said in the email, I decided to make a change because I realized I was always busy but not always getting the important things done.

To make this change happen, I first made a master list of everything I wanted ( and needed ) to get done. Then, I put them in order of priority. Of course, client projects were on top of business/personal projects… that was the easy part. The hard part was figuring out a good plan of action for all of the ideas I have for the CLC resource shop. Guys… it’s a really, really long list.

That’s when I decided to take it a step further and create a goals worksheet for myself ( and for you! ) that would help put all of my crazy ideas in perspective.

goal worksheet for creatives

This worksheet can be used for small ideas and large scale projects alike. It has a place for you to write down a deadline, reasons the goal is important to you and how it will help you reach your ultimate goal ( whatever that may be – in life or in business ), details + a description of the project, and research findings.

You know what to do with the “TO DO” part, but let’s talk about the “TO DO after” part! I think it is really important to write down the steps that need to be taken after a project is completed. Personally, I’m very guilty of immediately moving on to the next thing on my list when I finally finish a big project.

If you are a creative entrepreneur, the ”TO DO after” list may be just as important as the actual project itself. If you don’t tell your potential clients or customers about your awesome new product you’ve worked so hard on, they will STAY just that… potential.

So, on this list you may want to write “write a blog post”, “do an email campaign”, “offer a coupon”, or simply ” share with facebook and twitter followers”. And then don’t forget to celebrate. I took the liberty of filling that one out for you. ;)

Now go download the goals worksheet, organize your ideas and MAKE THEM HAPPEN! And when you finish, let me know so I can help you share it and celebrate!

resource shop / editorial content calendar

Hey friends! Ready for more free stuff? ;)

I’ve finally nailed down a design for an editorial calendar for blogging that I love so of course I’m going to share it with you! It’s the newest item in the CLC resource shop; you can grab it there for free. In this post I’m going to share a few tips on editorial calendars and how I use mine.

Cranberry Apple Caramel Cups

Cranberry Apple Filling

  • 4 Apples (about 1 apple per person), thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup dried cranberries (soaked in hot water for 15 minutes before using)
  •  juice from 1 orange
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Pastry Cups

  • 1 package of puff pastry
  • 2 cookie cutters, same shape but one bigger than the other
  • egg wash = 1 egg + 1 tablespoon water

* These little pastry cups are great for a million uses (soup, ice cream, and winter stews)! They are really simple to prepare and you can really make them your own. we decided to use pumpkin shaped cookie cutters for the fall season but you can really do anything! make sure you work with the pastry while it is still a little frozen and not completely thawed. It can be a little tricky if you wait until its really soft. You also want to use cookie cutters that if you put the smaller one inside of the larger one you get about a thumbnail of space in between each one.

Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

* Working with hot sugar can be a pain in the rear end. It is extremely hot so be careful and never try to touch it with your hands, always use a spoon. When you are finished stick all your utensils into the pot you made your caramel in and fill it with hot water and simmer, it melts all the sugar off and makes it much easier to clean.

For the Cranberry Apple Filling

mix all of your ingredients in a large sauté pan and simmer until apples are tender (about 15 minutes)

For the Pastry Cups

preheat your oven to 375 degrees and on a floured surface cut out as many shapes as you can fit with your larger cookie cutter on the puff pastry

set half of your cut outs on to a lined cookie sheet, with the remaining half use your smaller cookie cutter to cut out the edge of your larger shape. the easiest way to explain it is that if you were using circles then your new shape should look like a doughnut but with a larger hole.

egg wash the larger shapes that you set on your cookie sheet, and place your outline cut outs on top of each one. egg wash the top of those as well.

bake until your puff pastry cups are golden brown, about 15 minutes, once cooled press down the inside with a spoon to create a deeper bowl and now your ready to fill it with apple goodness!

For the Caramel Sauce

in a sauce pot on low – medium heat slowly melt your sugar, you want to resist every urge you have to stir this stuff. it can crystalize and it will mess up your lovely smooth caramel sauce. Very gently swirling the pot is acceptable for those of you that just cant resist. In the beginning it may look like nothing is happening but it will, i promise!

when your sugar is melted and is turning a nice caramel brown remove from heat and add your butter, it will spatter and bubble but it is all right! whisk it in until its fully melted, next add your heavy cream, the caramel will do the same thing as before just wait until it settles down to stir it all together.

once your mixture is all whisked together pour it into a bowl and leave it on the counter and let it come to room temperature. you don’t want to put it straight into the fridge until it cools down some.

Okay, one more bit of exciting news today.

Today is the first day of a new collaboration with Brittni of papernstitch! Once a month, sometimes more, I will be designing a set of printables that Brittni will style and photograph. This month, we created a “thankful for you” package for you to use this Thanksgiving season, but could be used anytime of year! I had such a great time working on this project and was blown away by Brittni’s creativity through the whole process! I’m very excited to continue this collaboration. :)

Head on over to papernstitch to see Brittni’s amazing styling and to grab the printables!
